Data Discovery Interfaces

Semantic data portals provide a view of the data that is brought together from across the Web. This 'self publishing' or data harvesting approach means that others can also harvest and collate the information and provide different views (e.g. a specialist directories containing data subsets) and enrich data by adding their own additional information.

 
Prototype BioCorder Portal:

  • First steps toward a rudimentary RDF data portal for BioCorder - little to see here right now, but watch this space. Best used with Rod Page's LSID Protocol Handler.

  • Semantic Web Environmental Directory (SWED) - a Semantic directory of environmental organisations and projects.
  • SIMILE Project Semantic Bank - the public semantic data bank at MIT.
  • Seamark Semantic Search - commercial interface for searching semantic data. Not exactly the Semantic Web but they have a very nice demo that illustrates the principles of semantic data integration.
  • TAP Semantic Web Search - interface to nodes connected to the Semantic Web. More info on their accompanying website and research paper (PDF).
  • Flamenco - a framework for a Semantic Web search interface. Try out one of their search demos.
  • mSpace: exploring the New Web - a group at the University of Southampton developing Semantic Web search interfaces. Try their demo (Mozilla-based browser required) or take a look at the accompanying research paper (PDF).
